Speakers Emergency Kit – Safety Pins

In two weeks, two situations arose that safety pins could solve.

Microphone Battery Pack

The first incident was a popular guest speaker who did not have any means by which we could attach the battery pack so she could wear a clip-on microphone. Also known as a lavalier, lav, and lapel microphones, these wireless microphones do require a battery pack to operate. Fortunately, this speaker was seasoned enough to be perfectly comfortable and effective with a hand-held microphone. But that is not always the case! If we had safety pins on hand, we could have simply pinned the battery pack to the back of her outfit and away she’d go.

Baggy Clothes

A lovely gal preparing for a photo shoot discovered that her clothes were loose due to eliminating sugar and gluten from her diet. She expressed concerned that the clothes may not look professional. With the shoot just a couple of days away, she wasn’t confident she could find new clothes without spending a lot of money on such short notice. Safety pins to the rescue! Since photos are of the front of folks, and often just the waist up, outfits can be tightened by simply pulling the fabric back and fastening with some safety pins.

Safety pins to the rescue!

As a result of these two incidents, I have added a baggie of medium and large safety pins in my public speaking emergency kit. You never know…
