Make Powerpoint a Zoom Virtual Background

Here is a way to really WOW your audience when delivering a PowerPoint presentation using Zoom.

Recently I gave a talk about Yellowstone on Zoom. I made PowerPoint my virtual background so my face showed up on the screen over the PowerPoint slides. By doing this, people could see my facial expressions, making the presentation much more personal and engaging.

Here are the steps to make Powerpoint a Zoom Virtual Background

  1. Have the most recent version of Zoom (free or paid) downloaded on your computer
  2. Make sure the host has enabled screen sharing for you
  3. Have your PowerPoint show handy for easy access (I put mine on my desktop)
  4. Start “SHARE SCREEN” in Zoom
  5. Select the”ADVANCED” tab
  6. Select “POWERPOINT AS A VIRTUAL BACKGROUND”
  7. Find and open your Powerpoint show
  8. Move and resize your head as not to be in the way of slide visuals.

Below is the video of my Yellowstone show. You will note a couple of hiccups in the video. That is to correct two mistakes. Mistakes you want to avoid when you give a talk.

  • I misspelled “STUPID” on a slide, so I covered it up with a black square in a film editing program ( I use Corel.)
  • I edited out my incorrect statistics about how many people have perished in the Yellowstone hot springs and mud tubs. It is critical to get your statistic right!
  • My head got in the way of some vistuals. Best to try to avoid that. The second time I delivered this talk I put my head in the upper right and made it smaller.

Powerpoint a Zoom Virtual Background Conclusion

All in all, the audience enjoyed the presentation. One person said they were jealous of my technical savviness. LOL. You can be savvy, too.
